How do you know when someone truly cares? Well, in my case it’s when they get you a book about Roadside coffee shop architecture of the 50’s in the Los Angeles area. It is just so appropriate — it’s pretty cool that she found something I wouldn’t even have thought to ask for.

As I happen to be travelling more than is reasonable lately, I’ve been on the lookout for new books. As I recently discovered, I’m somewhat picky when it comes to fiction, and unfortunately John Lescroart recently put the riveting Dismas Hardy series on hold. The first Hunt Club, also by Lescroart and also set in San Francisco, was just as deeply satisfying, with many references and characters form the Dismas series. But the next instalment in the new series is not yet available in paperback, and hardcovers are a big no-no on planes and in bed. That’s my own weird criterion #1. So that one will have to wait.
