I wanted to have something in relation to Germany, but I already posted the great Taste the Music a few weeks ago — with amazing foresight, as I had no idea I’d be going there at the time.
So instead I’ll focus on the NYC part of the last two weeks, with a slight digression into Old School territory — as close a cousin to funk as it gets IMO.
Oh how I wish I’d known the NYC and Seattle of the ’70s.
These were quite the eventful couple of weeks, as you can probably tell by the lack of activity on here.
It all started when I got shipped off to Olde Europe for a week on extra short notice — 4 days to be precise. In fact the more I complain about it the shorter it seems to get. I guess that’s just the way things work around here, and it looks like I’m not going to be the one to change it. Read the rest »

So I haven’t posted in a week… I guess that’s what happens when I’m back in town. At least I have a decent sized list of youtube bookmarks to share — I wanted to start with a certain private dick that’s a sex machine to all the chicks, but that’s a little too easy now, isn’t it. (although I think the live version I’m linking to is worth checking out — Ike and Jesse Jackson!)
So instead here’s a slightly lesser-known “follow-up” by the Bar-Kays, who were quite possibly the funkiest men alive in their time. It’s fairly different from the album version I’m used to, but it’s certainly as much of a powerhouse. And the outfits totally rock.
It’s not easy choosing just one song from the Bar-Kays, as they seemed to put out one masterpiece after another in their heyday. So expect at least a couple more in the coming weeks.
